Rush-hour Socialising

Posted at January 26, 2007 15:58 (UTC) from London, UK
London Rush-hour Socialising

We all know that Brits like to socialise. That's something they may be quite good in: »Let's go for a drink« or »How are you mate?« However, especially here in London, there's is another form of socialising. It's called »Squeezing« or others also call it »Move into the car, please«. It's a great opportunity to meet the oddest people but also getting very close to the person you have been fancying for a long time because it is not unusual to see your rush-hour mates another time.

Sometimes I think people like this kind of socialising as a kind of drug replacement. It is quite an amazing experience to stand close to a guy who put the latest BOSS after-shave on in the morning. Or breath deeply some of the rouge the lady in front of you just puts on her face hoping to attract new mates on her trip to work. But it is also a perfect excuse to call in off-sick at work the next day because you can say that on your way back from having a drink with mates, some of your other mates on the Tube must have given your a nasty flu.

Happy squeezing, but without me. I like to socialise on the platform waiting for the next train that is usually just one minute behind.

Hawaii style Sunset

Hawaii style Sunset

It does not happen often and when it happens than it lasts only for a few minutes. However, for the time you can see it, it's beautiful.

Life Above London's Roofs

Life above London's roofs

Taken this afternoon from my balcony: Some life above London's roofs in the early afternoon winter sun.

It's not on my balcony, it's on the neighbour's house.

London in Snow, January 2007
Picture taken from my bedroom

I cannot remember over the last winters I have been in London when I woke up in the morning and everything was dressed in white. Very nice. London is showing its other side. I like it. Wish it stayed for some days.

New Layout - Like It or Not?

Posted at January 23, 2007 23:14 (UTC) from London, UK

OK, as part of the revival I thought I also change the layout a little bit, at least the header picture and the background colour. What do you think? I am not 100% convinced yet. Though I like the picture, but it's hard to find the right colour for the text that overlays with it.

Well if you have any other ideas, feel free to leave a comment. :-)

2y + 1d = 731 days in London

Posted at January 21, 2007 18:07 (UTC) from London, UK

Long time ago this blog has seen an update. And yes believe your eyes, that's really a new blog entry and no odd behaviour by your RSS reader. :-) Friends have asked me what's going on and asked me to resume posting again. Well as you can see it took me a while but I will try my best now. I thought I take yesterday's anniversary as a reason to do so. Today I have been officially living in London for two years and one day, that makes exactly 731 days living on this island, in one of the craziest but also most attracting cities of the world.

A lot can happen in 731 day and a lot happened indeed. So I will not try to talk about everything in details (maybe in later posts about some, every now and then) but will just put together a list of names that spring to my mind that had an impact on my life over the last two years. I have got to know many new great people from all over the places, made an awful lot of new experience both in private life and also in my job. So if there's anybody reading this and feels excluded, drop me a line and I will add you. It's just an unordered list so the names will not imply any chronicle order. So please don't get upset if you find yourself mentioned in the list but not where you would have liked to be. :-)

London, Dresden, Ian, Mr Ruby, AppNet, New York, The Gates, Manhattan, Ground Zero, Virgin Atlantic, San Francisco, Christoph, Lufthansa, Frankfurt/Main, Bernd, Barclays, Marion, London, Brussels, Paris, Moscow, John C, St Petersburg, Russian Standard, Routemaster, 7/7/05, Nicolas, Sadat, Glenn, Wes, George, James, Arthur, Storhogna, Apple, Liverpool Street, London, ONE Railway, Stansted, Ryanair, Binz, Göhren, Rügen, Rostock, Jena, Hohenwarte, Datenbanktage 2005, Penemünde, Stefan, Marc, Berlin, Pöllwitz, London, Parents, HSBC, Chrstian, Geneva, HSBC, Datenbanktage 2006, Habitat, IKEA, The City, Tube, Soho, Hackney, Islington, Flat, Guapo Santiago, Charles Tyrwhitt, Bow Lane, Dmitry, Victoria Line, Moorgate, First Capital Connect, Gemini, Greg, Brooklyn, Sabine, Geneva, Prague, Stephane, London, Versailles, Tour Eiffel, Pizza Express, Southbank, Dean, jExam, Sebastian *y, Lombard Street, Marks & Spencers, Foxtons, Kieser Training, Volker, London, Ingo, Arthushof, Heiko, Pulkovo Airlines, O2, Sainsburys, Apple, Hector, Raja Fashion, Lofa, Starbucks, Diet Coke, Marco, Bose Quiet Comfort 3, Schiller, Ruhe, London, The Smile, Canon, jExam, Freeview, AEG, Moleskin, MacBook Pro, Prebisch Tor, Homerton Hospital, NHS, Waitrose, Docklands, Eurostar, Central Park, West Village, Jason, APT, Maggie Brown, Upper Class, Claudia, Konrad, Albrecht, Frauenkirche, Pat, Cleaner, Adidas, London, London, London
