Piccadilly Line: Reopened Aldwych Branch (?)
Posted at May 20, 2007 11:19 (UTC) from London, UKYesterday I realised, that somebody tried to make clear to London Underground the he/she wished to have the Aldwych Branch [1, 2, 3] of the Piccadilly Line to be reopened after it was finally closed in September 1994.
Aldwych Tube station is by far not the only abandon Tube station on the Piccadilly Line or the the entire Tube network. A very interesting view page is London Abandoned Tube Stations that gives a really good overview about the how the Tube network (and beyond) in London was like some time ago.
Have fun reading the secret stories about London Underground and the next time you hop on a Piccadilly line train (or almost any other line) then keep an eye open towards the tunnel walls. Very often you can still see where there closed stations are.
UPDATE Transport for London (TfL) has closed the Aldwych Branch again: Yesterday I saw, that they have swapped the route sign for the Piccadilly Line for an up-to-date one that does not include the Aldwych Branch anymore.
